Finally seeing the new Quarry School Wall in person…
May 31, 2023

Our last visit to the Quarry School was four years ago. Once again, the world lockdown prevented annual check-ins but in April 2023 Executive Director Christopher Graves made it back to the school and for the first time got to see the amazing construction project of the perimeter wall. Thanks to generous donations from Rotarians, the much needed wall was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. While years in preparation, once all the logistics, permits and planning were completed, the finances provided by club members was the final part of the process.

Pictured with Christopher Graves is Violet Simalonda, who heads Project HOPE’s partner group, Widows International in Lusaka, Zambia.

Violet, despite her advanced years and failing health, is still a staunch and formidable advocate for the Quarry School. With the wall completed, our focus now shifts to other critical needs to make the site fully functional as a resource for the orphans who attend classes here.

More updates are coming as planning for bushing blocks, a kitchen, sanitation and new well are in preparation for the school. Partial funding has already been received but we are a long way from the final budget to initiate the next phase of this project.
