Empowering Widows
September 19, 2024

The latest edition of widows’ business training just finished in Chipata, Zambia. Under the leadership of Geoffrey and Martha Muvumbo, twenty widows attended and completed the week-long session. After five days of learning how to create, manage and maintain a home-based enterprise, each woman was presented with seed money to launch her idea.

The training included basic book keeping, banking and other aspects of maintaining a small enterprise. Widows then decided a course of action for starting a home-based business and presented their plan to the group on the final day of training. From opening a small shop to raising chickens, each trainee’s plan then received funding to get started. Over the next year Geoff and Martha will do monthly check-ins with each woman to give support and encouragment.

By providing skills training these widows now have a pathway to become self-sustaining. How incredible it is to witness their ability to effectively use the training to create actual income generating activities.

Our thanks to Geoff and Martha for their tireless work to help widows in their community and a special note of gratitude to the donors who continue to support this important project.
